AbstractIt aims to identify photolithology units, which are capable of being analyzed by means of satellite imagery, as well as evaluating the potential use of remote sensing techniques and GIS for studies of this scope. The study area is part of the sedimentary basin and Taubaté limited to the south and north by the Crystalline Basement, featuring morphologies linked to these rock types. The method will be based on proposals Vedovello(2000) and Soares and Fiori (1976), suggest that the regional division in homologous zones, later called the Basic Units of Compartmentation. To this end, criteria are established and geotechnical fotointerpretativos based on three stages of analysis: Photoreading, Photoanalysis and Photointerpretation. The results show the geotechnical properties of each zone, which totaled in 21 sectors.
